Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Grilled Cheese

I once saw a show that said every culture on earth has a version of grilled cheese sandwich. The basic recipe is cheese, bread, heat, eat. Here are a few that we like.

Sourdough & Provolone

This is my husband's concoction. The kids kids ask for a "Daddy sandwich" when they want one.

Sourdough bread, sliced Provolone cheese, real butter. Cook slowly, turning once, until cheese melts and bread is lightly browned. This can get really gooey and kind of greasy if you aren't careful. These are good with a slice of ham or turkey.

Turkey BBQ
Sourdough bread, Swiss cheese, turkey, a little BBQ sauce on one slice of bread. Cook as normal.

Superwoman's Ultra Grilled Cheese

This one is more involved. And I am the only one who eats it...but I love it!

Spread margarine on one side of whole grain bread, place in cold pan. Top with chicken salad or tuna salad (canned meat, drained and mixed with mayonnaise only). Add a little salt and pepper, sliced tomatoes, chopped green onions, sliced or shredded cheddar cheese, and last slice of bread. Heat slowly. When it is time to flip, scoop it with the spatula, hold it steady and turn the pan over on top of it. Then turn the whole thing. This is the easiest way to avoid a mess. Cook until browned and cheese is melted.
