Hymn Sing Blog Link-Up

Kristi at Extraordinary Moments In An Ordinary Life has had a wonderful idea, a Hymn Sing Link-Up.

I love music. I love how music makes words more powerful, more meaningful, and more memorable. I have many favorite hymns. They come to my mind when I need comfort and guidance. When I first read about this link-up one hymn came immediately to my mind, Come Come Ye Saints. I debated whether to choose it since Kristi is not LDS and this hymn definitely is! I considered the words for a few minutes and decided it would be acceptable to share for a number of reasons.

First, This is the hymn that has gotten me through the rough times of military life. It is a hymn about courage and faithfulness in the face of adversity.

Second, although this is written with obvious reference to the pioneers who crossed the plains in search of religious freedom, it's message can be applied to anyone.

Let me explain further. Verses one and two remind me that this life is short and that God is in control. He knows what he is doing, he knows what he wants me to become. If I have faith in him all will be "well" in the end.
2 Kings 6:16 and John 16:33 come to mind for me.

Verse three is more about the Mormon Pioneer's quest for a peaceful place to worship yet it also has a broader meaning. We all are seeking that place of rest with God both in mortality and in the life to come.

Verse four reminds me again that the trials of life are really small in the eternal scheme of things. And what really matters is that my heart is right with God. (Revelations 14:13)

So, basically this is about the hope to oversome all my trials through faith in Christ. It is a call for all to accept Christ and enjoy the peace he offers each of us.
